Stephenson's Sustainability for Earth Day 2022

The Earth Day in 1970 led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. This resulted in the passing of environmental laws and acts including:

  • Endangered Species Act

  • Clean Air Act

  • Occupational Safety and Health Act

These laws have protected millions of people from death and disease as well as protecting hundreds of species from extinction. At present, 190+ countries are engaged with Earth Day and 1 billion individuals mobilized for action every earth day. So, what can we do?

  • Turn off lights when not in use

  • Use a Reusable Water Bottle

  • Eat less meat

  • Switch to reusable bags

  • Shop Local

Our spend to date with Who Gives A Crap is upwards of £400. What is it? It's toilet paper which is either made from 100% Bamboo fibres or 100% Recycled Materials. Why do we buy it? It’s biodegradable, no trees are cut down in the process, it's septic tank safe, eco friendly and carbon neutral shipping. 50% of profits are donated to ensure everyone has access to clean water and a toilet within our lifetime an they have donated over $10 million (AUD) to the cause. Within Stephenson, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our carbon footprint. These are the steps we are taking to a carbon zero future:

  1. Exploring environmentally friendly concrete

  2. Encourage our staff to log on to the Supply Chain Sustainability School and completing E-Learning Modules about sustainability when possible

  3. Investing in our staff – We are currently funding the education of one of our staff members who is working towards there BSC Environmental Science (Management)

  4. We are looking into ways to offset our carbon

  5. Recycling has been implemented in our offices

  6. Encouraging a greener and healthier food choice – e.g., Veganuary

  7. Organizing a cake and coffee morning and all profits to go towards Earth Day

  8. Researching more environmentally/sustainable products

  9. We have swapped out our Vinyl Stickers to Reusable Aluminium Stencils
