Throwing it back to one of our landmark student accommodation projects in Portsmouth, where we were proud to deliver the reinforced concrete frame for this impressive development.
The scheme delivered 836 student bedrooms across a series of buildings ranging from 7 to 25 storeys, creating a striking addition to the city's skyline.
One of the project's most complex engineering challenges was constructing accommodation that spanned an existing road. To achieve this, a three-beam post-tensioned bridge structure was installed, forming the support for the 16-storey section of the development while maintaining the highway below.
The site also shared a boundary with the railway approach to Portsmouth & Southsea Station, requiring careful planning, coordination and collaboration throughout construction.
Designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent, the development incorporated a range of sustainable features, while also delivering 14 market trader units and associated facilities for Portsmouth City Council as part of the wider regeneration scheme.
Looking back at projects like this is a great reminder of the technical expertise, teamwork and innovation that continue to shape the way we deliver reinforced concrete structures across the UK.
